It costs less than $1,700 per year to send a child to one of the best boarding schools in Uganda, This cost includes tuition, room and board, uniforms, health care, nutrition supplementation, and transportation. Scholarships are provided to young women ages 5-18 in the districts of Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola with an initial emphasis on the village of Kikoiiro in Nakasongola. Funding for this program comes directly from individual donors and sponsors. The sponsor not only pays for the girl's tuition, but funds transportation, room, board, books, basic medical expenses, vitamins, and even basic care for her family members if they face an emergency medical situation. (A child with living parents fares much better than an orphan, after all.) Scholarship recipients will not only receive a valuable education at an elite school, but they will be required to contribute in their villages in the form of community service when they are home for their summer breaks. Instead of removing talented and ambitious girls from their communities, we prefer they remain engaged with their home villages and encourage them to create an impact!
