In Uganda, the country where Just Like My Child foundation is currently working, a mosquito's bite can be deadly. Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria in Africa. Often the difference between life and death is timely transportation to the hospital or clinic.

Consider that the difference between life and death for a child with malaria in Africa can be as little as $5. Medication that works costs $7, but most parents can barely afford the $2 drug that no longer works against malaria because the disease is resistant to the low-cost medication. What if the right medication could be delivered right to the baby, at a discount?

The Bishop Asili Hospital in Luwero, Uganda serves a community of over 600,000 people. They serve a three-district region that stretches deep into the bush and villages of the country where very few government services are offered.

The hospital has only one small pick up truck to carry out all of its services to these far, outlying villages. Every day, innocent children and mothers die due to a lack of transportation.

in a mobile health unit
for rural Uganda that will:

• help thousands of women and children survive childbirth
• get children to the hospital when they are stricken with malaria
• get insecticide-treated bed nets out to thousands of children who might otherwise die from a mosquito bite
• help distribute AIDS medication to thousands of mothers who in turn can stay alive to raise their children
• bring trauma and accident victims directly to the hospital

Funds raised will assist us in the purchase of the vehicle, stretchers, refrigeration, oxygen tanks, medications to stock the vehicle, fuel and maintenance costs.

Maintenance, fuel and supplies are an ongoing cost, so please consider a donation now towards the $30,000 goal AND an annual donation to keep the vehicle running and to support ongoing programs that will keep saving lives!

Through the hard work of friends of Just Like My Child Foundation, we have been able to find this amazing mobile health unit in Nairobi, Kenya. And the cost of the vehicle is only 1/3 of what we thought we had to raise. We have to act fast before the opportunity is gone.

I have committed to Sister Ernestine, the founder of the Bishop Asili Hospital, that, with your help, we will raise the $30,000 needed to purchase this mobile health unit that will handle much of the urgent transportation needs of this huge community by Mother's Day, 2007!

It is critical that the mobile health unit is in place by mid-June to deliver insecticide-treated bed nets to families and AIDS treatment to thousands of mothers.
