Last year's event helped Just Like My Child Foundation raise over $115,000. This HUGE contribution enabled the Foundation to:
Purchase a vehicle for BishopAsili -- allowing the hospital to obtain their own medical supplies and travel deep into villages to provide treatment and care to patients who would otherwise receive no support.
Build a school in a rural community -- where children would otherwise die without education
Equip a small, temporary operating room -- allowing the Health Center to perform its first C-section saving the lives of both a mother and her newborn child.
Raise PARTIAL funding to build a fully equipped operating suite -- ensuring emergency surgical obstetric procedures, blood transfusions, trauma surgeries and more can be performed at Bishop Asili . Once this suite is complete, patients will not have to be transported to distant, poorly equipped hospitals while they are most ill, vulnerable and or injured.
Since 2008, Just Like My Child Foundation has also:
Protected over 40,000 mothers and young childrenfrom death by mosquito by distributing insecticide-treated bed nets, preventing Malaria which is caused by mosquitoes who bite at night.
Assisted in getting nearly 1,000 Mothers on lifesaving HIV/AIDS treatment ensuring that nearly 5,000 children will be spared the tragedy of becoming orphaned.
Paid for the first doctor to ever serve at this hospital which reaches over 600,000 people!
The Second Annual "Paid for Life System" donations will be used to:
Complete the Surgical Suite!
Just Like My Child Foundation has been working for three years to raise the funding to do this project right. For an additional $200,000 we can build a fully equipped surgical building that will increase the sustainability of the hospital through additional revenue AND save the lives of thousands of women and children who might otherwise face higher risk of complication or death during childbirth.
Compare that to the tens of millions of dollars our medical facilities cost to build in the United States. Imagine being so sick and injured that you had to be rushed to the hospital, yet when you arrived there, the hospital would not be able to treat you because it didn't have a sterile environment in which to treat you. Instead, you were turned away and had to travel on the back of a small motorcycle to the next hospital. Most likely, this other hospital would still not have the right facilities.
This is the scenario that takes place over and over in a corner of the world which is home to the poorest of the world's poor.

About the Just Like My Child Foundation
Just Like My Child Foundation (JLMC) is a U.S.-based 501c3 charitable corporation that is working to alleviate the suffering of women, children and families in Uganda, East Africa.
From a grassroots level, they are working to empower a community of over 600,000 people and 48 villages that has been ravaged by AIDS, malaria, corruption and poverty.
Who is the founder?
The Just Like My Child Foundation was founded in 2006 by social entrepreneur and mother, Vivian Glyck (wife of Mike Koenigs).
Vivian was motivated to mobilize people when she learned that in Africa:
3000 children die of malaria every day
13 million children are already orphaned by AIDS
to date, over 17 million Africans have died of AIDS
Vivian travels to Uganda 2-3 times per year and works directly with the people "on the ground." Mike travels with Vivian an average of two times per year.
By working on the ground with the people, they're able to see exactly how the contributions are being used, interact with the women and children directly and coordinate with volunteers, employees, doctors and everyone in the villages.
All of the video footage and photos you see on the Just Like My Child web site was shot by either Vivian or Mike on their travels.
How do I know my money is being used for what?
Funds donated to JLMC are used to support programs directly on the ground in Uganda. They do not work through any governments or other NGOs, ensuring that services go directly to the people who need it most without corruption!
JLMC is small, efficient, and focused on one large geographic community so that you will be able to see the direct results of your contribution over time. In just 3 years, the work of the foundation is literally savings tens of thousands of lives.
What will my money be used for?
JLMC is currently working with a hospital in rural Uganda to help build health services and infrastructure. Up until 8 months ago, the hospital had never had a doctor. Through the sponsorship of JLMC, the hospital now has a very competent surgeon, but they do not have the facilities to conduct basic emergency obstetrical procedures like c-sections safely.
The funds that will be raised through this event will be used primarily to fund the construction, equipping and staffing of a surgical center that will literally save thousands of lives.
